Oceanside Support is the ever expanding vision of setting up resources to help Children with Mental Health issues find their way through the perils of being diagnosed with a mood disorder, and to keep them from falling through the cracks of our poorly funded Mental Health Teams. In 2020, the vision was to create course content for art therapy programs, trauma groups, and hopefully provide one on one counseling with trained somatic experiencing therapists. The plan was to help the Mental Health Tram find funding to implement the program. Fast forward to 2023, and we feel inspired to start our own non profit. Our Healthcare system is broken, why fight a losing batttle?
Lifelong friends who discovered in 2020 they had a shared passion for helping children learn coping tools to help them deal with the traumas life is sure to bring. WE both felt that nurturing healthy self esteem, and life skills at a young age could help children navigate the complex world in which we live.
Between the two of us we have Early Childhood Education qualifications, Mental Health Peer support training and a whole slew of experience wading through the the Mental Health & Addictions Services offered by Vancouver Coastal Health; we have a proven track record of successfully applying for & obtaining grants
We are currently putting together a board of directors, we still have seats available. . . WE are looking for people who are passionate about helping children with Metal Health issues before they feel stigmatized & Shattered by life's betrayals.
WE are also looking for people who would like to help write a set of bylaws, the generic bylaws offered leave a lot to be desired, we would like to see things like board member being paid for their time to cover their cost of gas, and incidentals. Still kicking around the numbers, but we are thinking $50 a meeting. Also we've landed on having a minimum of three and a maximum of seven board members to keep it simple.
WE'd like a section on how to drum up a new board member if someone steps down mid term.
A clear outline of transparency ie, will we publish our financials on the website, or make them readily available upon request?
Members of the public being allowed to attend board meetings as an observer.
WE welcome the community at large to be part of this process, but would love to have people who have already served on a board of directors who have a clear idea of what they would have liked to see in their bylaws.
At Oceanside Support, our mission is to provide education and resources to support mental health and wellness for children and youth in our community.
We plan to offer variety of programs and services to support mental health, including counseling, support groups, educational workshops, and career exploration though visiting businesses. ie the Fire Department, coffee roasters, Auto repair shop - any business willing to give us a walk through. We'd also like to offer video editing; we

Will be AMAZING!
Currently looking for a board of directors, and anyone who is interested in learning about Mental Health Issues. As fledglings, we are open to suggestions as to how to put together a non profit.
